Making the choice Breaking
the patterns set in motion by your belief systems is a choice. You can choose to be happy despite
the misery around you. You can
choose to be successful no matter how many obstacles seem to be in your
way. It sometimes may seem to be
an impossible task, but this thought alone may be a result of the core
beliefs that cloud your view. Becoming
aware of your automatic reactions to things can allow you to stop and take

Gluten: A silent killer?
More
individuals are becoming aware of being gluten sensitive. Gluten sensitivity can cause mild to
severe inflammation in the body created by an autoimmune response. Many medical conditions may be
affected by gluten sensitivity more than just celiac disease. Gluten is composed of the sticky
storage proteins found in wheat. People may have an inherited disposition to be reactive to gluten, or
they may have been exposed to wheat too early in their diet as an infant,
allowing this protein to cross over into their system creating an autoimmune
response. Research shows that
there are many possibilities, which contribute to how sensitive and reactive
a person may become to wheat gluten. There is also the possibility of developing this reaction
spontaneously later in life.
In the Weight Loss for Life diet program I administer
in my office, I have found that many individuals are gluten sensitive and it
ultimately causes, bloating, inflammation and weight gain.
The initial phase of the diet is to lose weight, but the second phase of the diet is to determine what are their inflammatory foods. Foods that create inflammation impede the digestion and slow down the metabolism.

be necessary to exclude an entire class of food. During the second phase of the
program a patient discovers what specific foods create an inflammatory
reaction. An inflammatory
reaction causes you to gain water weight and feel bloated; surprisingly it
may also exacerbate other inflammatory conditions like back pain and
arthritis.
Patients may gain from 1 lb to 8 lbs of water weight in
just a few days, from eating their inflammatory foods!
According to research the inflammation and bloating
caused by gluten is due to an autoimmune response. Apparently this autoimmune response is not limited to just
the gut, and can affect other organs in the body! An autoimmune response means the body begins to attack
itself and this may be the cause of many degenerative diseases.

Research shows that plaguing on the brain has
disappeared in gluten sensitive individuals after staying OFF of gluten for
one year – that’s a huge change. Similar plaguing is seen in diseases like MS and Alzheimer’s.
This immune response reaction from gluten may also be affecting the thyroid gland, causing subclinical hypothyroidism; this slows down your metabolism and can cause weight gain.* According to this study, in most patients who strictly followed a 1-yr gluten withdrawal (as confirmed by intestinal mucosa recovery), there was a normalization of subclinical hypothyroidism. In addition, gluten withdrawal may single-handedly reverse the abnormality. |

For gluten sensitive
individuals avoiding gluten may change your life. It can be daunting at first since gluten is hidden in so
many foods. You would be
surprised what gluten is in - soy sauce for example. Many restaurants have a
gluten free menu if you ask.

straight and have a friend put their hand flat on your low back. Then pretend
to drive, work on the computer, read a book, etc. You should feel the muscles
of the low back tighten. This is a simple demonstration of how the low back
fatigues as everyone holds these positions all day long, over the entire
workweek, over their entire lives. Daily stretching and routine chiropractic
care can help diminish the effects of everyday activities.
Dr.
Best recommends for strengthening and stretching your lower back to use the
yoga poses: downward and upward
dog. Exhale as you move into
downward dog (hold for 5s) and breathe in as you move into upward dog (hold
for 5s). Repeat this sequence
from 11 times. Finish with
child’s pose for one minute.
